6 - User Maintenance, Care and Cleaning of Computer Systems

Location:
Care should be taken when selecting a physical location for any computer.  Avoid placing computers near heat sources, in direct sunlight, near plumbing fixtures, under air conditioning equipment or in a non-controlled (temperature and humidity) environment.  Environmental ranges should be within 60°-90°F and 8% to 80% relative humidity (noncondensing).

Power:
Each workstation shall be connected to building power through a surge protection device.

Monitors:
Screen can be easily cleaned with a lightly damp cloth or another nonabrasive screen cleaner.

Cases:
Computer cases, mice and keyboards may be cleaned with any non-abrasive, commercial liquid cleaner.  The computer should be turned off before cleaning. Cleaners should never be sprayed directly on any surface.  Liquid sprays should be applied to a soft paper towel or cloth and then used to clean the case, mouse or keyboard.  Computers and external peripherals may be dusted with a dust wand.
